How to correct this XPath

I found error in this XPath .. to to corect it?

xindice xpath -c /db/cnewsml -q /NewsML/NewsItem/NewsComponent/NewsLines/ByLine[text()="*Alan*"]

remark: /db/cnewsml is my collection
/NewsML..../'*Alan*'] is my XPah 
I want to retrieve all the ByLine element in which it contains 'Alan' characters
