In the file webapp/lenya/config/cocoon-xconf/scheduler/datasources.xconf the
whole node /cocoon/datasources is removed: 'remove="/cocoon/datasources"' on
line 23. This leads to the nasty effect that all datasources which have been
defined earlier during the build process (for example a datasource defined in a
publication) are deleted.

Thanks. I think you are right. ATM there is a datasource belonging to a Cocoon
sample application called "personnel" which is providing a <datasources/>
element. If someone disables this, the datasource for the Lenya scheduler cannot
be patched.
It seems that patches can only go into existing elements. This is my private
guess (confirmed by some experiments); i am not able to decide this by reading
http://wiki.apache.org/cocoon/XPatchTaskUsage. So a <datasources/> element must
be provided before it can be used. As far as i can see, there are two solutions
for this:
1. Cocoon provides an empty <datasources/> element in its master cocoon.xconf.
2. The <datasources/> element is inserted by a separate patch file before the
first patch file that wants to use the element.
I created such a file and added another patch. This makes my first patch run
without making assumptions about Cocoon sample applications.

looks good. but who takes care of adding a <datasources/> element to
cocoon.xconf if it isn't already there? can we rely on some other global
patchfile to do that?
if not, i fear the patch might fail on a clean build...
sorry can't test it myself atm. markus, can you comment? if you're sure there's
no problem, i'll try and commit your patch tonight.
