[Realease Notes] Proposed template for creation o Release Notes
Hello All;
I have a proposed draft of a template for use in creating Release
Notes at:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Release+Notes+Template.
All comments and changes are welcome. I believe that there is a way to
generate actual templates for the Confluence wiki and I will be digging
through the documentation for it to try and figure out how to do so.
Regards
Keith

Thanks or the input. I will add that now. My goal is to get a
standard look and look and feel. I sections are not needed fo a
particular release than the boiler plate "None at this time" can be used
or the section can be deleted or that release.

I like it. It did not apply in 3.4.1 since it was a maintenance
release, but in general we would also want a section for "New
Features", maybe immediately before the Enhancements/Improvements.

If you can figure out how CWiki does templates I'm sure we would find
plenty of other areas where this would be useful as well.
Thanks!

well, it's a curious thing. I DO the html export but for some reason
although the file IS an html file, it makes into ".doc". I need to check
some of what I told you about this by the way. At any rate, the html
export is there.

Thank you, but I'm not sure I deserve the extent of this complement. I
had little to do with the COMPLETE design of www.openoffice.org. I do know
a LOT about bare bones html though. CSS, maybe not so much, but enough to
get by most of the time. :)

I had noticed the html export when I was rooting through the
documentation and wasn't sure i it was installed on our instance of
Confluence. Figured that it couldn't hurt to ask. My background is in
manufacturing engineering and I am a very large fan of making sure that
there are more efficient ways of accomplishing redundant and
potentially error prone tasks.
Your knowledge of web design and support shows in the quality of your
work. On the other hand what I know of the subject and HTML in general
would it on the head of a pin and have room left for thousands of
angels. :oD.

I use the html export but it puts it some styling that we don't use on the
web site and it needs to be removed. I'll need to see how it looks if we
just left this in. And then, maybe no futzing needed. Or, maybe I'm doing
something wrong. :/ I'll do this again at some point.

Thanks Kay, that was one of the ideas that prompted me to do this. I
noted that you said in an earlier thread that converting the notes from
the wiki to HTML took some futzing. Are we using the HTML export add-on
that is available or Conluence or are you doing it by hand?

Looks good to me. I think using a template like this will be good for
organization.

Since I have seen no negative feedback on this, I will start adding this
material to the existing 3.5 and 4.0 release notes.

After rooting through the the Confluence documentation pages, it appears
that admin privileges are need to create a true template. There are two
types of templates Space Templates and Global Templates. For space
templates you need space admin privileges, or global templates you need
Confluence administrator privileges.
I have neither of the above privileges, therefore if the decision is to
use the template than someone with those privileges would need to copy
it into the template editor.
