About forward demo

Hi
Trying to figure out forward demo.
I understand that template forward-demo.vm is called.
But what happens after this, because if i choose to forward to print portlet it type out my username, email and so on.
But if i save the link it will not type out the data, so is the data retrived by the Portlet print or is it in the post with forward.
But then i do not understand where the code are that retrieve this information and post it.
