I could be reproduced on Xubuntu 16.04.1 Linux 64bit.
The procedure in Comment 1 makes the application no responsible.

Based on the numerous confirming reports and my own tests with Windows 7 and
AOO4.1.3 I am marking this one confirmed.

From my humble point of view the only "special" thing about the document is
that it contains LTR (German) and RTL (arabic) scripts and thus is a bidi text.
I had to insert a RTL orientation mark in order to get the right position and
orientation of some brackets.

To reproduce the error:
1. Open the attached document.
2. In the middle of the second page there's a line of text in red.
3. Click on the beginning of the line.
4. Press <Return> (in order to enter a blank line).

--- Comment #6 from Jake <ja...@testpartners.co.uk> ---
(Jakub Harasny 12/10/2016)

I was successfully able to replicate the issue and narrow it down, isolate.

Configuration:
Windows 10
Processor :AMD FX(tm)-8120 Eight-Core Processor, 3100 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical
Processors
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB
AMD Radeon HD 7800

Issue replicated on:
Open Office Writer 4.1.2
Open Office Writer 4.2 Beta

By following the steps in the initial report I was able to successfully
replicate this issue. I noticed that issue is related to the note/footnote in
that document. You might click return button in any place if it will change the
note position.

Original document contains two footnotes (one on page number 2 and one on page
number 3 ). The issue is related to the first footnote (page number 2).
There is a note next to the Arabic text: هَدَفٌ ج أَهْدَافٌ (Google translate: C
target goals) and explanation/footnote for it. As soon this Arabic text try to
cross its footnote so the text would jumps to the next page (e.g. by pressing
enter) writer hangs.
To make it more clear I deleted all other text from the original file and left
only this text and related footnote (odt file attached + screenshot). Please
follow below steps to replicate the issue
1. Download Footnote.odt file from the attachment
2. Open the file in Open Office Writer
3. Start pressing enter to move the text to the next rows
4. As soon Text try to jump to the next page Writer hangs

It seems that this issue is related only to this particular text/note. I tried
to replicate this issue using different text, notes (also with the second
Arabic footnote in the original document) but issue didn’t occur.

--- Comment #3 from Allen James <Ad...@asu.edu> ---
I have been able to replicate this problem by following the provided
instructions on a Windows 10 PC in the 4.1.2 build.

I have also been able to replicate the problem by pressing <enter> at the end
of the German text on the red line, and again by pressing <enter> midway
through the Arabic portion of the red line, and I was able to replicate the
problem on the line just under the red line, indicating that this problem is
not isolated to one line of the document.

I was successfully able to replicate the bug on Writer 4.1.2 on both of the
following systems:

Desktop
Windows 10 Pro Version 10.0.14393 Build 14393
3.9 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB DDR3
GeForce GTX 980 Ti

MacBook Pro
Mac OSX El Capitan Version 10.11.6
2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 8 GB DDR3
Intel Iris Graphics 6100

I followed the same steps detailed by Steffen to produce the crash. The crash
can also be reproduced by pressing <enter> in other locations as well. So, it
does not appear to be confined to just the line in question. For example,
selecting the beginning of the text two lines below the red text and pressing
<enter> also causes a crash.

When the crash occurs all instances of Writer that are currently running are
affected (they hang as well). Neither OS that was tested seems to be able to
recover on its own. On Windows 10, for example, task manager must be entered
and then Writer must be manually ended.
