Quote from the Batik team
Roddy,
Here is an update on the quote from the Batik team. It takes into
account feedback from Christophe Jolif, Thierry Kormann, Bill Haneman,
Thomas De Weese, Stefano Mazzocchi and myself.
Thanks.
V.
"Apache's Batik provides building blocks that allow developers to
generate, parse, view and convert SVG content in their
Java Technology(tm) applications. Batik makes it easy for application
developers to handle SVG content for many purposes both client-side
and server-side.
Applications can use the pluggable GUI component Batik provides to
easily
support SVG viewing capability. Batik can export graphics drawn
with the core Java 2D (tm) API classes to the SVG format, and Batik can
also convert SVG content into other formats such as JPEG or PNG.
In addition Batik is designed to be extensible. Developers can add
custom SVG extensions, graphic implementations and converters, such as
a custom filter element, a custom gradient paint implementation or
an SVG to PDF converter."
