Well.. you are asking a Dutch person living in Italy.. so what I come up
with might not be authoritative. So I've chickened out and forwarded it
to the list. I usually say

	Kserses and Ksalan

but that may be way of in US or UK english.

I say it just like Mike! I don't like Zay-lan, Za-lan sounds better, and
I don't put a "k" sound in Zer-sees either. I implore everyone to say it
like Mike! ;-)

I pronounce it:

	Zer-sees (no "k" sound)
	Za-lan (with the a as in "bat")

The Xalan people corrected me, however, because they prefer

	Zay-lan (with the a as in "break")  :-)

Here's how I pronounce it:

Xerces:  Zerk'-seez
