[users@httpd] apache install on suse 9.0....advice.

I have a few questions I am hoping somebody can help
answer:

Background info: I just installed suse 9.0 with
Apache (Dont know what version).

Questions:

1. How do I determine what version is installed?
2. How do I determine what mods it has been installed
with.
3. Where can I look to see if the source is on my
system someplace?
4. If I download a new source and
compile/install...is there something I need to do with
the previous installed version?

Thank You so much.

Alex-

fault this side... accepted!
Sure use the -v and do upgrade from source for the latest version which
would have most bugfixes as compared to the pre-installed.

He just said he installed SuSE 9.0 *with* Apache -- which, it seems
likely to me, means he installed Apache as a result of installing the
OS, and therefore (a) probably didn't install source and (b) doesn't
know what version was bundled into the distribution.

You don't know what you downloaded? The version number is right there on
the source that you download. Anyway there are ways to handle all your
queries:

httpd -v

httpd -l

Where did you download and uncompressed the source? It still should be
there unless you moved it

You need to stop the apache (prev version) to start the new one that you
installed later because otherwise if the port is 80 on both of them, the
later installed version will not start and will give you an error

httpd -v for version, -l for list of mods, -h for help screen.

I simply installed the new version to /usr/local and stopped using the
Red Hat supplied httpd (edit all paths in init.d/httpd to point to your
installation instead of the default).

If you do that, you know whether or not and where the source is installed.
