Status on Commons Net - specifically 2.0 release

I was hoping someone could shed some light on the status of the Commons
Net project - specifically the 2.0 release. I am currently using the
1.4.1 release and am experiencing some issues with the FTPClient class.
After digging through the bug reports, mailing lists, etc. ... I came
across a few interesting links :

http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=31122 - discussing
various issues with the FTPClient class and eventually a link to this
-http://people.apache.org/~rwinston/commons-net-2.0/ - a 2.0 snapshot
which supposedly fixes a bunch of these issues by divorcing FTPClient
from TelnetClient.

It would also appear that the java src component of the SVN rep has not
been touched in 4 months :

http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/commons/proper/net/trunk/src/java/

Is this project still active? Also, what state is the 2.0 snapshot
mentioned above in? ALPHA, BETA, PRODUCTION? And, would it be just as
valid to check out the SVN trunk and build from there instead of using
the 2.0 snapshot build?

Thanks in advance for any info that folks can provide.

Cheers,
Tim
