problems after page size switch. bug?

hi forum,

reading the xsl fo book of Dave Pawson, I adapted one of his examples
(3.6) to experiment a bit.
I ended up with a fo file with a page sequence master that uses an a4
start and end page, but small pages in between. Just not to have to
provide so much content to fill the pages.

The strange thing is that when the page changes from size, fop
doesn't seem to realize that and flows the content using the old page
size. This is true for both switching from A4 to small and the other
way around.

Can anyone tell me if this is intended behaviour? I have attached the
fo. Most of the fo comes from the Dave Pawson book, the content is a
paste from a random wikipedia page.

I use fop 0.95 on a debian linux with 2.6.26-2-686 kernal.

thanks, Ruud

Yes. Changing IPD means changing page width. If the width of the body
region changes the change is not detected on later pages.

The workaround is to use a forced page break or to start a new page
sequence when the width of the body region changes. Obviously this means
breaking the text or table up, so is not always acceptable either.

Alternatively there is a permenant fix available in the latest trunk
code. Just download from SVN and build yourself to try it out.

hi forum,

just to be shore, I have changed the test fo to have pages of equal
size, but with different printable area's (by changing the margins). I
found the same behaviour.

So page 1 has a wide regionbody, page 2 a small region body, but fop
uses the dimensions of page 1. I can accept a problem when the pages
are of different size, but fop disregarding the margins in a common
situation seems unacceptable to me.

Is this the so called IPD problem as well? Is a workaround available?
Is it a bug?

In the attached file: first and last page have wide print area, the
pages in between a small print area. This is only used after a page
break, after which it is used even on the last, wider page.

thanks, Ruud

thanks for pointing out Chris,
I change the fo so that the pages have the same size....

This is a known limitation. Such a document is said to have changing IPD
which 0.95 doesn't currently support.

In the current SVN Trunk code has been introduced to support such
documents. Although the support for changing IPD is limited to text
flows. If your document is really a bug table then that still won't be
supported by the SVN Trunk code.
