element.getNodeValue() returns null

           Summary: element.getNodeValue() returns null
           Product: Xerces2-J
           Version: 2.2.0
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows NT/2K
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Major
          Priority: Other
         Component: DOM
        AssignedTo: xerces-j-dev@xml.apache.org
        ReportedBy: Naga.Vijayapuram@Vivecon.com

I have developed a MSG-style web service using Axis.
An Element[] is passed from the client to the server.

The first element received on the server side is written
out to a file, and verified that the contents (nodes, text)
are received correctly.

I am able to parse it successfully using SAX to get the contents,
using a ContentHandler.

However, I cannot get the text contents from the element.
I get null, when I call element.getNodeValue()

Please help.

Thanks,
