Threads deadlock in FileAppender

Hi,

My system has an extreme load of requests and transactions, we see that log4j FileAppender is causing some threads deadlocks:

"http-13180-143" daemon prio=10 tid=0x00002aac3c5bb000 nid=0x262c2 waiting for monitor entry [0x00002aac300bc000]
   java.lang.Thread.State: BLOCKED (on object monitor)
        at org.apache.log4j.Category.callAppenders(Category.java:201)
        - locked <0x00002aaab8919168> (a org.apache.log4j.spi.RootLogger)
        at org.apache.log4j.Category.forcedLog(Category.java:388)
        at org.apache.log4j.Category.error(Category.java:302)

I see that similar bugs were fixed for the AsyncAppender some time ago:

https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=38137

What can I do to prevent these deadlocks? FileAppender is a must use in my app.

I use 1.6.0_17-linux-amd64 jvm and tomcat 5.5.29.

Thanks!
