Tomcat Bombing out?

I have a problem with Tomcat (3.1.1) bombing out every so often. It's
running some SOAP services on a Solaris 7
machine. As soon as any of them are invoked Tomcat starts freezing then
eventually bombs. 
Anyone seen this before? I'm not really sure it's entirely Tomcat but I
can't see what else might be doing it. 
The jdk is a 1.2.1 version for sparc.
