XMLPlatformUtils::panic() calls exit()

sorry if this question has already been posed (my guess is it has), but i
haven't had any luck accessing the mail archives or the bug database (both
seem to be down).

are there any plans to remove the call to exit() and replace it with an
exception? this would be very useful, and would also be the Right Thing
(TM) to do seeing how xerces is a library and shouldn't really be making
that decision.

thanks,
jason

Actually, it should be replaced with an optional callback that you can
provide in Initialize(). If you don't provide one, then the intenral one is
used. We can't throw an exception very easily at that point, because we in
many cases aren't far enough bootstrapped to do so, and because when people
create global objects in their code and something goes wrong, they never
know why because the exception thrown cannot be caught and just drops them
back out again.
