[VOTE] Release Email 1.4 Based on RC1

I would like to call a vote for releasing Commons Email 1.4 based on
RC1. This will also be my last release for Email, as I don't have the
time anymore to further maintain this component in the future.

Email 1.4 RC1 is available for review here:
    https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/commons/email/
    (svn revision 9039)

Maven artifacts are here:

https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/orgapachecommons-1096/org/apache/commons/commons-email/1.4

Details of changes since 1.3.3 are in the release notes:
    https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/commons/email/RELEASE-NOTES.txt
    http://people.apache.org/builds/commons/email/1.4/changes-report.html

The tag is here:
    https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/commons/proper/email/tags/EMAIL_1_4_RC1
    (svn revision 1680085)

Site:
    http://people.apache.org/builds/commons/email/1.4/

Clirr Report (compared to 1.3.3):
    http://people.apache.org/builds/commons/email/1.4/clirr-report.html

RAT Report:
    http://people.apache.org/builds/commons/email/1.4/rat-report.html

KEYS:

Please review the release candidate and vote.
This vote will close no sooner that 72 hours from now, i.e. after
  2200 MEZ 21-May 2015

Re: [VOTE] Release Email 1.4 Based on RC1

Posted by Benedikt Ritter <br...@apache.org>.
Hello Thomas,

thank you for pushing another release of [email]. Here is my review of
email 1.4 RC 1:

- Hashes and signatures look good
- Tag and sources archive have the same content
- builds from sources with Java 7+8 and Maven 3.3.3 on Mac OS X 10.10
- Site and reports look good.

Observations:
- Changes report has an entry for 1.0-rc8 and 1.0-rc6-SNAPSHOT. Looks
strange to me, but seems to have been around for longer now. Maybe we can
drop this?
- Maven staging repo contains the source and binary archives. According to
our docs, those should be removed before closing the staging repo.
- Release notes look good, BUT the header says "Commons Email Package".
AFAIK is should be "Apache Commons Email". Should be fixed for the next
release or if another RC has to be created.

Nothing critical for me, good work!

+1

This may well be the case that the problem is caused by the maven
version. I have 3.2.1. Anyway, somehow an artifact compiled with JDK 1.6
ends up in the classpath and cannot be read by the executing 1.5 JVM.

But I do not think that we need to worry about this too much in respect
of the 1.4 release.

I tried the same with -Pjava-1.5 and it still works:

Results :

Tests run: 177, Failures: 0, Errors: 0, Skipped: 3

Maybe it is related to the maven version (I use a rather old 3.1.1)? I
vaguely remember that there was a problem with maven 3.2 or later?

I get:

Results :

Tests in error:
  HtmlEmailTest.initializationError » UnsupportedClassVersion Bad
version number
...
  ImageHtmlEmailTest.initializationError » UnsupportedClassVersion Bad
version n
...
  MultiPartEmailTest.initializationError » UnsupportedClassVersion Bad
version n
...

Tests run: 128, Failures: 0, Errors: 3, Skipped: 1

It is strange that the number of tests run differ pretty much. I use the
java-1.5 profile to point the build to a JDK 1.5 installation.

I could successfully build it with Java 1.5:

Hi Thomas,

build was successful with Java 1.6 and 1.8 on Windows 8.1. Artifacts and
site look good.

The only problem I had was that I could not build with Java 1.5; there
were test failures because of UnsupportedClassVersion. Obviously, at
least one of the dependencies is no longer available for Java 1.5. So
should the release notes be updated to state that Java 1.6 is required?

Not blocking, I am +1 for this release.

+1 non-binding
Builds works fine on

Maven home: /opt/apache-maven-3.2.5
Java version: 1.8.0_45, vendor: Oracle Corporation
Java home: /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle/jre
Default locale: en_US, platform encoding: UTF-8
OS name: "linux", version: "3.16.0-37-generic", arch: "amd64", family: "unix"
All tests pass. No new errors in the reports.

Thank you!

I would like to call a vote for releasing Commons Email 1.4 based on
RC1. This will also be my last release for Email, as I don't have the
time anymore to further maintain this component in the future.

Email 1.4 RC1 is available for review here:
    https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/commons/email/
    (svn revision 9039)

Maven artifacts are here:

https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/orgapachecommons-1096/org/apache/commons/commons-email/1.4

Details of changes since 1.3.3 are in the release notes:
    https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/commons/email/RELEASE-NOTES.txt
    http://people.apache.org/builds/commons/email/1.4/changes-report.html

The tag is here:
    https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/commons/proper/email/tags/EMAIL_1_4_RC1
    (svn revision 1680085)

Site:
    http://people.apache.org/builds/commons/email/1.4/

Clirr Report (compared to 1.3.3):
    http://people.apache.org/builds/commons/email/1.4/clirr-report.html

RAT Report:
    http://people.apache.org/builds/commons/email/1.4/rat-report.html

KEYS:
  https://www.apache.org/dist/commons/KEYS

Please review the release candidate and vote.
This vote will close no sooner that 72 hours from now, i.e. after
  2200 MEZ 21-May 2015

[ ] +1 Release these artifacts
[ ] +0 OK, but...
[ ] -0 OK, but really should fix...
[ ] -1 I oppose this release because...

Thanks!

Thomas
