WSIF tutorial

I am fairly new to this technology.. Anybody has a good tutorial to propose me for learning WSIF? I don't clearly how it works...

Does WSIF deals between the client and Axis or between Axis and the web service?

WSIF is a set of APIs which provides the user with a uniform means to consume WebServices, and these apis are based on WSDL
rather than directly on SOAP.  Axis is a kind of SOAP engine and processes SOAP service. ( However, in wsif, the conception of web
service is not limited to soap over http, anything available over the network and with associated functional descriptions is considered as web service. )
