Error message when disconnecting a Windows Server 2012

Hello everyone,

I have a problem when disconnecting a Windows Server 2012. Indeed, this message appear : < The remote desktop server is currently unavailable. If the problem persists, please notify your system administrator, or check your system logs. >

Error log message : < guacamole01 guacd[1453]: Error handling RDP file descriptors >

Isn't present on Windows 2008 (log : < guacamole01 guacd[1436]: RDP server closed connection: Disconnected. >).

What might be the reason for the problem?

Sincerely,

Kevin

Hello Nick,

> What version of Guacamole are you running?
I use currently the 0.9.13 GIT version (I had the same problem before with the 0.9.12 version).

> How did you install guacd? Was it a package, or did you build it yourself?
I have « Installing Guacamole natively » (https://guacamole.incubator.apache.org/doc/0.9.13-incubating/gug/installing-guacamole.html) with GIT.

> Does this happen consistently with multiple Windows 2012 servers, or just a single one?
This happen with all Windows 2012 servers of my company (it’s OK on 2008 servers), i will be try de install a basic Windows 2012 Server directly from ISO for test.

> Does it happen when you Disconnect, Log Off, or both?
This happen after select « Sign out » or « disconnect » (this is similar when I « shut down » the server).

Do you want more information or configuration ? What is « RDP file descriptors » ?

Where I can found more logs (I have using journalctl for previous logs) ?

Thanks

Sincerely,
Kevin

I connect to both 2008R2 and 2012R2 servers, and am not seeing this issue. What version of FreeRDP are you building guacd against?

I don't think there's currently a way to change the behavior of a disconnect that results in an error.

FWIW,

I noticed that this patch hits the same code I identified as causing the
0x5 not to reach the client, and the auto-reconnect to ping-pong back and
forth reconnecting after the 15s countdown. This patch fixes my issue. I am
on Server 2012 r2.

I am seeing the same behavior as Kevin; Windows 2008 does not give
this error, while both 2012 and 2016 do. I found the easiest way to
reproduce this is to connect to the box but not do anything in the
Windows logon screen. The RDP server will disconnect the session and
the referenced error is produced. The freerdp version I am using is
1.1.0~git20140921.

Kevin; try adding this to src/protocols/rdp/rdp.c for remedy:

Hello,

For information I quickly tested Guacamole installation on Centos 7 (my previous installations were on Debian 8) and I don’t have the problem when I logout from Windows now…

On Debian, the version of freerdp is 1.1.0 and on Centos 1.0.2. And, I do not have some libraries on Centos (libavcodec, libavutil, libswscale, libtelnet), I'll look for why. I do not know why it's OK on Centos and not on Debian.

Hello Aldo,

I do not think this is a user session problem. Indeed, my first tests were on a Windows Server 2012 with RDS function (to allow more than 2 sessions), and I was alone for the others.

I have tested with a Windows Server 2016 today, and I have the same problem. I have realized 4 tests, on a Windows 2008 production server, a Windows 2012 R2 production server, a Windows 2012 R2 new test server and a Windows 2016 new test server.

To resume, when I select “sign out/log off” or “disconnect” from Windows interface:

- OK message on Guacamole interface for Windows 2008 R2 : “You have been disconnected. »

- NOK message on Guacamole interface for Windows 2012 R2/2016 : “The remote desktop server is currently unavailable. If the problem persists, please notify your system administrator, or check your system logs.” and there is a reconnection timer. And this message is present on journalctl for Guacamole : “Error handling RDP file descriptors”.

And, if I try to connect with another RDP tool with the same account on a server where I’m already connected with Guacamole:

- Normal message on Guacamole interface for Windows 2008 R2 : “The remote desktop server has closed the connection because it conflicts with another connection. Please try again later.”

- Anormal message on Guacamole interface for Windows 2012 R2/2016 : “The remote desktop server is currently unavailable. If the problem persists, please notify your system administrator, or check your system logs.” and there is a reconnection timer. And this message is present on journalctl for Guacamole : “Error handling RDP file descriptors”.

Kevin

- Normal message on Guacamole interface for Windows 2008 R2 : “The remote desktop server has closed the connection because it conflicts with another connection. Please try again later.”

- Anormal message on Guacamole interface for Windows 2012 R2/2016 : “The remote desktop server is currently unavailable. If the problem persists, please notify your system administrator, or check your system logs.” and there is a reconnection timer. And this message is present on journalctl for Guacamole : “Error handling RDP file descriptors”.

Sincerely,

Kevin

Hello Kevin
Win2012R2 allows only two sessions from the same username. Is this the problem you mention?

Hello everyone,

I have a problem when disconnecting a Windows Server 2012. Indeed, this message appear : « The remote desktop server is currently unavailable. If the problem persists, please notify your system administrator, or check your system logs. »

Error log message : « guacamole01 guacd[1453]: Error handling RDP file descriptors »

Isn’t present on Windows 2008 (log : « guacamole01 guacd[1436]: RDP server closed connection: Disconnected. »).

What might be the reason for the problem?

Sincerely,

Kevin
