Request for Review and Feedback on Accounting Documentation

Hi Everyone

For the last few months I've been working on documenting the existing OFBiz
accounting functionality on the Wiki. Although I'm still working through
some of the areas I think there is a lot of information there so I'd like to
ask people to take a look and let me have any feedback or comments.

The Wiki address is as follows:

http://docs.ofbiz.org/display/OFBIZ/Accounting+Manager

Links to the documentation are also available by clicking the 'Help' button
on any of the accounting pages.

One point to note is that I've tried to maintain the module menu structure
in the documentation so some of the page numbering might look a bit strange
at the moment but I'm planning to sort that out and standardise it.

Once completed I'd like to do some work on identifying what I've across to
date in terms of bugs and potential missing processes or functionality.

I've also been asked to look at moving the Accounting documentation from the
Wiki and into to the OFBENDUSER workspace so that it will form part of the
formal OFBiz documentation – so I'll be working on that too.

Thanks
Sharan

Hello Sharan,

I have reviewed all your document in accounting component.
It's good start and need attention of some expert who can comment on
your questions.

-- Adding screenshot will be of great help in your document with some
pointer (arrow) that shows in what context you are saying something.

I am reviewing Accounting component in more details (code +
functionality review) and will try to help / update in that document
whenever I will get time in this month.

Hiya Jacques

Yes - that sounds like a good plan. I can do the second review as I move the
pages. I can also look at putting together a summary of all the points
raised in the 'notes' summary so that you dont have to read through all that
exciting accounting text!

Thanks
Sharan

Hi Sharan,

I'm currently (but slowly) reviewing your work. On my side, I can't see any problem in this move.
I was trying to fill the gaps (notes) but maybe I will wait your 2d pass before doing so, what do you think ?

Thanks

Jacques

Re: Request for Review and Feedback on Accounting Documentation

Posted by Sharan-F <sh...@gmail.com>.
Hi Everyone

Thank you all very much for your feedback. Some of the notes that I've put
in the documentation are just reminders for areas that need further
clarification or testing – some of which I can do on the my next 'pass'
through. I've also seen that other people have been looking at these 'notes'
too and some new JIRA requests have been created around them.

I'd like to start migrating the Accounting Documentation from the Wiki over
to the 'Manager References' section of the OFBENDUSER workspace as I
understand this is the place where the formal OFBiz documentation is to be
consolidated. I'll also do a renumber of the sections at the same time so
will need to organise a patch for the AccoutingHelpUrls.xml file.

Before I do anything - I just want to check that this move of workspace isnt
going to cause any major problems as it is currently linked to the OOTB
online help.

Thanks
Sharan

It's under Home and I think that almost all pages should be under home to better organize things.
Actually we miss even more organisation than information in wiki... For instance there are some redundancy between Applications and
End User Documentation and we should try to merge them, but... who cares ? :/ (complaining is easy)

I guess it's because it supposed to be used online from OFBiz OOTB.

This link is hard to find: http://docs.ofbiz.org/display/OFBIZ/End+User+Documentation

It does not seem to be linked from docs.ofbiz.org. There is an End User Documentation link but it does not point to the URL above.

Sharan,
if you have added some help pages it might be possible that they are not
linked yet to the OFBiz pages. If you find some of these please list theme
in a message and I will add links for them.

Thanks Bruno!

I was not aware of these pages (how did I missed them ?)
I remember the 1st time I was looking in Confluence, I wanted to do some sort of desktop with some icons instead of a flat tree home
page. Looks like you achieved my dream (ok there are still a lot of things to fill and for icons we will see later ;o)

Kudos also to Carsten Schinzer

actually looks better (no right side links).

Thanks Sharan,

This is a very important point for OFBiz reputation. If we were able to make the same detailled effort in other areas, OFBiz would
get more attention I guess (most reviews point out the lack of *organised* end user documentation). Bruno's work on the help
mechanism is nicely completing your work. We should defintively try to mimic the result you achieved there!

I'm not a specialist in accouting but I will review your work next week.
