There was already a similar test at 
org.apache.commons.dbcp.TestManual.testPooling, but I added a more directy copy 
at TestManual.testReportedBug12400 (see rev. 1.11), and I still don't see any 
problem.  

Although bug 12409 (http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=12409) 
was already fixed, I don't think that's related--in the sample code you posted, 
each connection is only closed once anyway.

If you still see issues here, please reopen with more detail.
