Imo, we should copy this along with root directory of the index. But, I'd fine if it's done separately.

[~teofili], [~chetanm], I think this is useful for 1.4 but since we don't want to include feature work for 1.4 beyond Jan, I'm not sure if we should pick it up for 1.4.
