How can I make apache talk to tomat !!!

I have apache server and tomat4.0 . How can I make these two talk and what
is the use of apache server.

My tomcat examples are working fine
http://localhost:8080/examples/jsp/date.jsp, but if I run the jsp file
other than /example/jsp dir I get error.

Thanks
