ANT classpaths in javac task

How can both a list of jarfiles and <classpath refid ... be specified to
the javac task in ANT

IN the below segment of build.xml, myref is included in the path however 
the jar in "location" is not.  Any thoughts?

<javac ....>
     <classpath>
         <path refid="myref"/>
         <path location="${root}/myjar.jar"/>
     <classpath>
</javac>

There are no errors in build.xml reported by ANT.
