Deep feeling about release 3.0

Hi Maxim,

I tried a new release at demo.dataved.ru. The first page was fascinating!
Other things unfortunately weren't. Right now the OM server does not seem
to respond reliably (I get connection problems twice).

I wonder... Why have you decided to use grey native browser buttons? Aren't
they 20 year old trend in the web design? Those START and Calendar buttons
look strange as well. What principle is behind placements and widths of
widgets? I'm using windows and they don't seem fitting their contents and
the screen. I miss global chat widget - how can I open it? Do my school
kids really need browsing throw mail list archive under the News widget?
They just need to come to the room they left the last time. Anyway. All the
widgets don't seem to fit the screen. How does it imply from the shaking of
login panel that I should go into my inbox and press some link from the
incoming letter. Won't it be easier to understand to say something like "go
to your inbox to verify your account" on the unsuccessful login attempt? My
room widget has clumsy layout and have room names... in Russian? Initially
the private room list was just empty. The changes in the new release may
not be easily accepted by general users. Hope at least you had fun coding
this. Do you have any plans to make the design more friendly?

Sorry for all this rumbling and good luck.

Kisses, Alice

I was hoping to see something like:
Pages X, Y and Z; all buttons should be replaced with jQuery-UI like
buttons :) or similar :)
Will wait for your detailed reports :)

Hello Alice,

Thanks for your feedback.
I will use "bullet list" to answer them to make things more structured.

1) "grey buttons" I'm not designer unfortunately, so layout, colors and
components were mostly taken from the previous version of OM. Currently
pages are HTML so you can help by providing: JIRA issue and/or new HTML
and/or CSS and/or patch :)

2) Widgets are similar to original ones, the only size issue I can see is
with "my rooms" widget, will try to take a look at it

3) global chat is minimized to the bottom-right corner, probably it need to
be made more visible, any help is appreciated

4) All widgets can be turned off is Profile/Widgets

5) you can bookmark direct room URL as
http://demo.dataved.ru/openmeetings/#room/ID (for example:
http://demo.dataved.ru/openmeetings/#room/4)

6) Shaking login panel was my idea :) Mea kulpa :) Will try to add text
warning

7) Default OM language might be Russian since server is being maintained by
Russian developers, you can set up your own language :)

8) I have no design skills, I can apply any design changes, but I need
someone who can provide sketches/ideas :) Help is appreciated :)

Additional NOTE: I do believe we need to release OM from time to time, I
believe we need to move forward, this change was really major, and we might
miss something :(
