Folks,

I have created an Apache Tez 0.5.0 release candidate (rc1).

simplified the APIs with a focus on usability.

2) Documentation – Extensive Javadoc’s and a number of detailed
examples have been added.

3) Local Mode – Local mode execution to run tasks within the App
Master JVM allows for easy debugging.

4) Tez tools – Added initial support for performance debug tooling

RE: [VOTE] Release Apache Tez 0.5.0 rc1

Posted by Bikas Saha <bi...@hortonworks.com>.
Please open a jira with target release 0.5 for this issue. It would be
great if any other Hive issues are reported before the next RC.

Other users should not be affected by this since AFAIK MultiMRInput is only
used by Hive.

Thanks for trying out the release and discovering regressions. I will
create another RC when the above jira and any other new ones opened for
Hive incompatibility are fixed.

Found an issue with the input configuration helpers. Looks like we cannot
configure the multi-mr inputs without accessing internal proto structures
with the new API changes.

Verified signature and checksums. Ran a couple of simple Tez examples
successfully.

Minor: We should name the release artifacts with a "-src" suffix, since
this isn't a binary release. Can we do this when pushing to dist ?

Thanks

Folks,

I have created an Apache Tez 0.5.0 release candidate (rc1).

This is a developer focused release where we have made significant progress
in the following areas (among others)

1) API simplification and stability – Based on user feedback we have
simplified the APIs with a focus on usability.

+1 (binding)
   - verified sigs, md5/sha1 checksums
   - built from source and ran example jobs.

A minor nit which should be documented in the release wiki so that it does not happen for the next RC/release:
  - release date in CHANGES.txt is incorrect. It should be the date when the vote is expected to close and not when it started.

Also, given that as we have not yet established by-laws, I assume we are following the normal conventions used in other projects that PMC votes are the only ones
that are binding for a release?
