servlets in jar-file

hi everybody!

i´d like to know, if it is possible to specify several servlet-directories
for tomcat or - even more interesting - one or more jar-files containing the
needed servlet-classes?

thanx for help...

If there is any difference (i haven't noticed any, but haven't tried to measure
it either) it would only happen the first time a servlet (or any other class)
was accessed. After that, it will already be in memory.

hey! thanks Craig!

thats exactly what i needed! is there a significant lack in performance when
i use an jar-file for my servlets instead putting them unjarred into the
WEB-INF/classes dir?

thank you again for your immediate response...

The places that Tomcat (or any 2.2-compatible servlet container) looks for
classes belonging to your application is fixed by the Servlet Specification.
The places are as follows:

* The directory "WEB-INF/classes" underneath the document root
of your application can contain unpacked classes (i.e. not in a JAR
  file) or associated resources.

* The directory "WEB-INF/lib" underneath the document root
of your application can contain JAR files of classes and resources.
You can have as many JAR files as you like there.
