After due consideration over the course of many of these addition
requests, I find myself very much in favor of Andrew's suggested
process. However, it would be useful if the requirement of a patch
was stated more explicitly in disclaimer under the "Third Party
Support" section of http://jakarta.apache.org/site/vendors.html:

I actually hope this continues to remain inconveinent. My actual
motivation for starting this page was to avoid having people spam the
various mail lists with it. However, personally I'd rather not see the
page full of people who don't know how to contribute to Jakarta
projects, let alone support them. So I rather like the natural form of
darwinism required to update the page. I think we might want to make it
clearer: "contribute to this page the same way you do other projects..
. If you don't know how, then why would you list yourself here?"

jakarta and xml sites are build using anakia/xml, not so archaic

if my details should be displayed incorrectly on the Jakarta website, at
least I can re-submit another patch in order to get them corrected
with your database, it's submit-only ;-)
other than that: requiring people to submit a patch seems a decent
barrier to discourage PHBs and sales/marketing people to use apache.org
as a marketing vehicle
but all-in-all, using CVS and thus requiring static HTML files as the
primary staging mechanism of jakarta/xml.apache.org seems to be pretty
archaic to me

Someone asked to be added to the vendors page.
At 14:59 15/09/02, someone replied:

I find this a rather clumsy way of doing content management on a website
and IMHO unreasonable.
So I did something about it. I set up a database of companies who offer
professional support for Open Source software, including most Apache
projects. See the URL in the sig below to add your company to the database.
(incidently the webapp database is powered by Turbine/Tomcat/Velocity etc)
