release situation

gang,

we need to figure out what we want to do about the failed 1.2.5 release,
and further 1.4 / trunk releases.

clearly the lack of interest within a useful time frame for 1.2.5 is
worrying. after all, this community has not had a release in about 18
months.

i see a couple possible scenarios:

a) we try again with 1.2.5
b) we retire the 1.2 branch
c) we release a new 1.4 release (a1 was the last one)

i think we should do a, followed by b and c.

other ideas, comments?

the tarball compiles and runs fine here. i did some *very* basic testing
as well. dunno if i get a vote on this, but if so, i'm +1.

ok, i fixed the permissions. we are at 2 votes, need one more for this
to pass.

+1

Also as Thorsten mentioned we should make the build and lenya scripts
executable. I guess this can be done within the ant target during zip
resp. tgz by using file permissions resp. mode.

Recently were closed some interesting bugs, which makes sense to add to
the release:

1. File and image upload not working in Bitflux [1]
2. "Checkin" menu item leads to exception [2]
3. Adding document-type parameter and template matcher for neutron protocol.

+1 for a 1.2.5 release :-)

I would suggest that we propose to use the cocoon version which comes
with Gregors tarball (2.1.9?) and we might add a note that the release
is tested with cocoon 2.1.10 too.

Hi,

I have done some basic tests of the src tarball with
- cocoon 2.1.10
- jdk 1.4.2
- linux

Everything worked.

well, if we don't need 2.1.10, we shouldn't specify it and force users
into needless upgrades. instead, maybe the INSTALL-SRC should say "known
to work with cocoon versions 2.1.7 to 2.1.10".

I would says yes. Because a lot of people can just download lenya and go
ahead once it does not work when they follow the install instructions.

WDYT?

agreed. From Josias' feedback it seems that 2.1.10 is working, so I
would suggest that set 2.1.10 within the INSTALL-SRC.

builds fine, runs.

one minor issue: edit with kupu, add internal link.
then edit with bxe: "the target attribute is not allowed in <a>"

not a showstopper, but annoying.

i'm not really familiar with 1.2, but everything i've tried looks ok.

I think it would be good if we could forward your email also to the user

+1 for checking in the patch into SVN, but I think Gregor should make a
new tarball from
the most recent version of the 1.2.x branch with a clearly defined
revision number which the tarball is based on.

I found the problem. The parameter root is defined in navigation.xmap
and refined in sitetree2nav.xsl. Changing sitetree2nav.xsl as follows
fixes this problem:

Index: sitetree2nav.xsl
===================================================================
--- sitetree2nav.xsl (revision 501784)
+++ sitetree2nav.xsl    (working copy)

 <xsl:template name="create-path-to-context">

Shall I check that fix in and gregor includes it in his tarball for
lenya-1.2.5?

I did test the most important feature. I found one important bug:

If I change the proxy settings in publication.xconf the urls are
corectlly rewritten in the content area but not the menu i.e. if i use
the following proxy entry:

<proxy area="live" ssl="false" url="http://idlnxjaf.unizh.ch/default"/>

I end up with a link like:
http://idlnxjaf.unizh.ch/default/tutorial/abc.html
in the content area but the link in the menu entry looks like:
http://localhost:8080/lenya/default/live/tutorial/abc.html

Can somebody confirm this? If yes that should be fixed imo before a
1.2.5 relaease.

Test apache-lenya-1.2.5-src.tar.gz:

I needed to
1) chmod +x build.sh
2) chmod +x lenya.sh

I tested all basic functionality.

Beside 1 and 2 (I think this should come from the tar ball) my

+1, but I have to admit that I don't have the time for testing this
branch.

> b) we retire the 1.2 branch

I don't think we should retire it officially, not until we
gained the credibility that we manage to do regular releases
of the 1.4 branch.

> c) we release a new 1.4 release (a1 was the last one)

+1 for an RC.

I'll send another status update, then the devs can decide if
it is the time to do an RC now.

don't care too much what we call it as long as we release *something* soon.

I would definitely first do (a) because it contains some improvements
and hence would be kind of lost

you mean a RC?

IMO we can talk about it when we have a stable 1.4 version released,
before we cannot retire 1.2.
