[forums] Two Branding / Migration Issues

Hi Folks - particularly anyone who has access to the Forum code,

There are two issues with the forums which need to be resolved. I'm bringing these to the project's attention and do not have time to do more right now.

(1) The Oracle logo is still on the main page at user.services.openoffice.org. Along with incorrect footer links.

(2) The Site's Terms of Use are still on Oracle servers at http://openoffice.org/terms_of_use

Who has access to the site templates? TJ? Gavin?

Regards,
Dave

Hi again - I'll stick to this thread then.

Actually a proposed update to the text was started:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/website-terms-of-use-draft

There was also a start to updated privacy policy text:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/website-privacy-policy-draft

An email was also sent to the legal mail list asking for comment on
those items. (not sure if any came back)

Ok - well, the memory was a little weak there - just looked at that page
again, the source, and there was some changes I'd forgotten about.
Anyway - I still believe that is just a static html file and not
generated from a CMS, that uses the kenai header and footer, and google
analytics block...hmm

Anyway - right now I'm finishing up the last of the normal color graphic
files that looked appropriate for update in the source, then need to
start on the high contract images.

Before the HC stuff (morning), I will update the file to use the styling
from the new AOO site (header and footer) and go through the
infrastructure list about getting it installed. (unless someone wants to
beat me to it..)

Right - there is the terms of use that one must agree to when they
create an account - that text does not refer to Oracle or any other
entity other then 'OpenOffice.org Community Forums' as the service.

So, I don't that think that should change, unless (or until) the actual
name of the forums changes - something that could be brought up on at
the forums now I suppose.

Drew,

Sorry,

I was referring to a code sample with a copyright and GPL notice being accepted as a Forum contribution under the existing Oracle terms of use (which allow no such thing). The misunderstanding was that a contributor could choose any license. It was a misreading of the outgoing terms as applicable to incoming contributions.

That's what I meant by toxic. Sorry for being vague about it.

Well, then for now I'd say take the link in the current footer at the
forum and point it to:
http://www.openoffice.org/license.html

[ ... ]

beyond that, I have a problem with calling anything on a public forum,
such as this, toxic - no one _has_ to take anything from it (the site)
for any purpose related to the normal functioning of the application.

Well, then for now I'd say take the link in the current footer at the
forum and point it to:
http://www.openoffice.org/license.html

and be done with it.

The Privacy statement was linked to from the TOU page, if that link
isn't there any more, then so be it.

beyond that, I have a problem with calling anything on a public forum,
such as this, toxic - no one _has_ to take anything from it (the site)

RE: [forums] Two Branding / Migration Issues

I have nothing new on this beyond the issue at

<https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LEGAL-104>

and the related discussion at

<https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118518>

My views have not changed.

The likely case is that the same terms-of-use statement that is now used for the main www.openoffice.org properties would apply to the forums. This will not handle the fact that the forums have code contributions under old licenses and some are toxic. The forum admins seemed to be unclear about that the one time it came up.

Responses have generally been to avoid differentiating incoming and outgoing terms, not provide a privacy statement, and require all contributions to be under ALv2.

I don't share that view, but see no reason to keep repeating myself. I have nothing to add.

The AOO (incubating) logo from the podling site (or similar) would be cool, linked to the podling site.

That page is on Oracle's Kenai - we need a replacement page on www.openoffice.org/ or incubator.apache.org/openofficeorg/.

Probably it is http://incubator.apache.org/openofficeorg/terms.html

I think that there may be other terms that were discussed when the Forums were moved, but I wasn't paying close attention to that.

Hi Dave,

That page doesn't use a template, it's just static html at index.html...

Actually I think that is the right place for that link, in the page
footer, to point to - it's the content on the referenced page that needs
updating.
