I am also in favour of allowing the reason code.

Although the discussion so far appears to be odd.

is probably of little value.

However in particular in the 4XX and 5XX case, there is value for the client to
learn more specifically what is wrong.

There is org.apache.catalina.valves.ErrorReportValve that might partially fix
the problem.

But in particular non-HTML Clients like DAV clients using the
org.apache.catalina.servlets.WebdavServlet
for file transfers will not necessarily expect/render html-responses.

Therefore, I second the plea of Todd !
