svn: Can't create tunnel: The system cannot find the file specified.
Platform: Windows 2008 server, Collabnet svn command line client 1.5.0
I have a checkout, using the svn+ssh protocol, made with TortoiseSVN,
using putty as the ssh client.
I have now installed the Collabnet command line client, so that I can
use vc in GNU Emacs on the checked out files.
However the command line client fails with the message
svn: Can't create tunnel: The system cannot find the file specified.
so it doesn't find, or use, the same ssh support by default.
I've googled for the error message, and it seems that I have to change
the config to point to the full path to plink.exe.
The question is where to do it. TortoiseSVN has created
AppData\Roaming\Subversion\
under my user profile. However:
1. I don't know if svn.exe will use this config
2. as far as I can tell, there are no references to plink.exe in the
config in this directory
In one of the google matches I saw someone putting plink.exe into the
same directory as svn.exe, so I tried copying plink.exe and pasting it
into the same directory as svn.exe, but that didn't work either.
So does anyone know what the exact file and config to change to make
svn.exe use putty? There is no .subversion subdirectory in my user
profile? I've also set HOME to point to my user profile (to make GNU
emacs pick up its configuration correctly), perhaps that affects things?
Thanx!

The spaces in the path could be causing problems for you. Try
ssh = "c:\Program Files (x86)\PuTTY\plink.exe" -i c:\Users\myuser\Documents\putty\rsa-key-20080625.ppk

This one
http://agateau.wordpress.com/2007/07/03/windows-svnssh-and-the-subversion-command-line-client/
indicates using
ssh=c:/path/to/plink.exe -i c:/path/to/your/key.ppk
So I tried this line
ssh = c:/Program Files (x86)/PuTTY/plink.exe -i c:/Users/myuser/Documents/putty/rsa-key-20080625.ppk
But that didn't help either. I still get the Option expected error.
I've tried quoting the () characters. ie. like this
ssh = c:/Program Files \(x86\)/PuTTY/plink.exe -i c:/Users/myuser/Documents/putty/rsa-key-20080625.ppk
But that didn't help either. Still got the dreaded
svn: C:\Users\myuser\AppData\Roaming\Subversion\config:60: Option expected
error.

Yes... basically the same stuff I've tried.
I've tried referencing plink with full path forward slashes, backward
slashes, and double backward slashes, with .exe, without .exe, and with
just the application name.
Following the link above, I've now tried adding -load configname but I
still get the Option expected error. And in any case it shouldn't be
neccessary, since I had to make the servername part of the svn+ssh URL
the putty configname, rather than the actual server name, to be able to
check things out using TortoiseSVN.

Hm... I've been googling for "svn.exe plink", to get the Win32 specific
matches. But of course plink by itself is enough to make things win32
specific.

This looks promising:

Found by googling for "subversion plink", first hit.

svn.exe responds to changes in this config.
But I've been unable to create an ssh config that works.
I've uncommented the ssh = line in the [tunnels] section, and I've tried
ssh = plink.exe
ssh = $SVN_SSH plink.exe
ssh = c:\Program Files (x86)\PuTTy\plink.exe
ssh = plink
ssh = /Program Files (x86)/PuTTy/plink
However all of these results in the error message:
svn: C:\Users\myuser\AppData\Roaming\Subversion\config:60: Option expected
The comments say that what should be here is a command, optionally
prefixed by an enviroment variable that can be used for overriding the
setting. Which is afaik what I've tried.
This line also causes TortoiseSVN to fail with the same error message.
However, commenting out the line makes TortoiseSVN work, while svn.exe
reverts to the error message:
svn: Can't create tunnel: The system cannot find the file specified.
