Wrong parameter passing to macro will not result in parse error

Summary: Wrong parameter passing to macro will not result in
                    parse error
           Product: Velocity
           Version: 1.2
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows NT/2K
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: Other
         Component: Source
        AssignedTo: velocity-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: ddekany@freemail.hu

Input:
  #macro (foo $a)
  [$a]
  #end
  #foo(red)

Output:
  [$a]

AFAIK #foo(red)
means nothing (#foo('red') or #foo($red) does).
