Re: Upgrade to Hadoop 2.2.0 and HBase 0.96.1.1

How is 0.94.11 not running well with Hadoop 2?
We are using that setup in production.

For Hadoop 2.2.x you have recompile 0.94 with a new version of Protobuf (2.5), other than that it should work just fine.

Subject: Upgrade to Hadoop 2.2.0 and HBase 0.96.1.1

Hello,

our cluster is running Hadoop 1.2.1 and HBase 0.94.11. Now we wanna upgrade the cluster to the newest version, in particular Hadoop 2.2.0 and HBase 0.96.1.1. How is the best approach to do that?

Because 0.94.11 is not running well with hadoop 2, my first idea was to upgrade Hbase to version 0.96.1.1-hadoop1. Than upgrade Hadoop to 2.2.0 and than install base 0.96.1.1-hadoop2. Is there any easier way?

Sorry if this question asked before, but I didn't find any previous post.

Thanks,

    Timo

Timo:
You can do in the following order:

1. shutdown Hadoop and HBase
2. upgrade hadoop
3. start hadoop
4. upgrade HBase
5. start HBase

Yes, you are right. With "not running well" I meant the out-of-the-box HBase. I've read about the protobuf solution in this matrix [0].

But anyway, we wanna run 0.96.1.1 and my main question is, what should I update first, Hadoop or HBase. Or can I shutdown Hadoop and HBase and than start both services again with the new Versions?

Thanks,
