Certificate Trust Paths (again) ;)

Hello everybody,
 
I'm looking for a way to check the trust path of a transmitted certificate. I know, someone on this list is already after this, I rember the names Jonathan Anderson and David Cunningham mentioned before.
 
Does anybody know how far CertPath validation is? Does it make sense to start an own implementation?
