id on popup can't use binding expression

I am still working on this tree issue.  It does not let me use 
"#{node.identifier}popup" for the id attribute which might have been a 
good workaround.  Why is this?  Is the popup modifiable so it can take a 
binding value in id attribute, or is this not allowed period and why?
