   The source offsets are available in the `StreamingQueryProgress` in the listener so it may be another place where the offsets could be committed without touching the source, though I agree the proposed built-in option should be considered if its a common requirement. 
   I guess you also need to think about the failure scenarios like what happens if the commit to some partitions succeed from the driver but the batch fails and is replayed.
