[users@httpd] Makefile.in and relocatavble builds on Solaris

Hi - I am trying to build a relocatable Solaris 2.8 package of Apache2
httpd-2.0.52. As part of our packaging system I need to make a package
that installs in /apache2 but is built on the build system as ~/reloc/

This was easily achieved on Apache 1.3 as we could configure with
--prefix=/apache2 then edit the Makefile.tmpl and change the 'root'to
~/reloc/

cat Makefile.tmpl.tmp | sed -e s:^root.*:root=$BASE/reloc: > Makefile.tmpl

However with Apache2 there is nothing that allows us to do this, infact
there isn't makefile.tmpl.

I suspect I am missing something horribly obvious.

Thanks

DC

Such a silly mistake - of course apache doesn't actually need to run
from /reloc only from /apache2.

Computers are stupid they just do what we tell them to do.

Thanks anyways

Dave

That doesn't work for me. Whilst the files get installed in the correct
place the binaries etc are looking in /apache2

bash-2.03$ ./apachectl -t
./apachectl: /apache2/bin/httpd: not found
bash-2.03$ ./httpd -X
httpd: could not open document config file /apache2/conf/httpd.conf

This is why we hack the Makefile in 1.3.

Do you mean like a DESTDIR install? Typical DESTDIR usage is:

./configure --prefix=/apache2
make
make install DESTDIR=$HOME/reloc

and then the files will be installed into $HOME/reloc/apache2/...
which can be tarred up from the build machine and untarred into /apache2
on the target machine.
