[jira] [Commented] (LEGAL-499) Becoming a member of the EtherCAT Technology Group

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LEGAL-499?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=16991086#comment-16991086 ]

Roman Shaposhnik commented on LEGAL-499:
----------------------------------------

From the foundation-level these types of decisions are typically made at the project level. Hence if PLC4X has a clear need -- this should be enough to justify the next steps.

Then, from a legal perspective, the devil is in the details. We need to review the required documents and approve it by VP Legal before we can execute them.

Thus, I'd suggest to:
    1. Give a heads-up to the board that you'll be reaching to EtherCAT on behalf of ASF requesting required paperwork (the usual 72 hours would apply here).
    2. Reach out to EtherCAT and forward the documents to vp-legal

Anything else left here to discuss or can we close this?

> In order to get access to specifications and to get a Vendor ID assigned, we need to become a member of the EtherCAT Technology Group. This membership is free.
> We need this in order to be able to implement EtherCAT drivers in the PLC4X project as well as to use the Logos (Probably the StreamPipes project will then also benefit from this membership)
> As soon as we are a member, a next step will be to acquire a Vendor ID.
