binary releases
I wanted to see how the community felt about also publishing binaries as
part of the release. Hadoop, for example, has been doing this
http://hadoop.apache.org/releases.html
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/release/hadoop/common/hadoop-2.8.0/
Thanks

Yes, I can take up the packaging part.

Here is the JIRA. The feedback was included as sub-tasks. Thomas do you
want to take this up as you already have experience packaging it?
Otherwise, I will take it up.

Look like the response from everyone is positive. We can potentially reuse
the packaging Thomas shared and will need to add the appropriate licenses
as Justin suggested. I will create the necessary JIRAs.
Regarding sample applications, I feel a few sample applications will be a
nice touch for somebody to see what the platform can do fairly quickly.
Thanks for the feedback.

Re: binary releases

+1 I had suggested that before and if there is agreement on adding it, then
the packaging part is solved here:
https://github.com/atrato/apex-cli-package
As Justin pointed out, it requires to analyze the bundled dependencies and
potentially add additional NOTICE and LICENSE content.
I'm not in favor of including examples, as it will bloat the download.
Maybe add one example like the pi demo that can be used to test the install?
Malhar examples in general are not ready for binary distribution currently
(they are not published to Maven as part of release). They each need to be
checked for bundled dependencies before they can be distributed in binary
form.

+1. Should we create one single binary distribution that includes core
and examples from malhar or have binary distribution of the core and
sample applications as two separate binary distributions/downloads?
Thank you,

Hi,
Just be aware that it may require different LICENSE and NOTICE and the contents of the binary are likely to different to the source release. [1]
Thanks,
Justin
