Need hint about parent pom not in svn and child in svn

Hi all,

I try to explain my scenario, very simple:

- parent.pom
- child.pom

parent.pom is not inside Subversion and so it doesn't define the scm element
child.pom is inside Subversion and it defines the scm element

Now Continuum:
- I add child.pom specifying its svn url but Continuum says that parent pom
is missing,
- I add parent pom uploading it as it is not in Subversion but Continuum
says tha scm element is missing
- Then I add again child.pom and this time Continuum works and I see my just
inserted project.

That behaviour is quite strange, by the way it works.

Now, consider that I change parent.pom, as it isn't in Subversion, I need to
upload it again on Continuum, I try to do that, Continuum says again that
scm element is missing, but this time if I launch a build of the child
project, unfortunately Continuum seems to not see my changes on parent.pom.

Perhaps I'm wrong in setting my environment, should I configure it in a
different way?
Should I have to put in svn also my parent pom?

thanks in advance, best regards
Raffaele

Well,
I believe that info should be as soon as possible put on Continuum site well
exposed....
The many threads in this mailing list show that there are many users, like
me, that don't understand this fact.

Sorry but, If I have more than one maven installed on server where Continuum
runs, but the user which runs Continuum is always the same, that choice to
looks for only settings in user home doesn't work again, not?

Can you explain better your opinion please?

It isn't a mysterious reason.

You can have more that one maven installed on your server so Continuum can't
know which settings.xml to look at.
M2_HOME/conf/settings.xml is a shared file between all maven installation.

Finally I found the solution...

It was suffice to copy M2_HOME/conf/settings.xml inside USER_HOME/.m2
because continuum (for apparently mysterious reasons) doesn't use first
settings as all of us expect it to do, but Continuum simply ignore that
settings.xml and looks for only for the user settings.xml wihtout logging
this action

Your opinion initially seemed good....but trying that solution, that is
manually installing parent pom on the local repository of the machine where
Continuum runs, once again I have the same problem:

my log say the same as your jira issue:
87577 [http-80-1] INFO org.apache.maven.continuum.Continuum:default -
Created 0 projects.
87577 [http-80-1] INFO org.apache.maven.continuum.Continuum:default -
Created 0 project groups.
87577 [http-80-1] INFO org.apache.maven.continuum.Continuum:default - 1
errors.
87577 [http-80-1] INFO org.apache.maven.continuum.Continuum:default - 1
errors during project add:
87577 [http-80-1] INFO org.apache.maven.continuum.Continuum:default -
add.project.artifact.not.found.error

And Continuum says again:
Missing artifact trying to build the POM. Check that its parent POM is
available or add it first in Continuum.

So, it isn't a workaround, at least in my case.

Can you explain me what's happen when I upload a pom using add project page?
I mean, where does that uploaded pom go? Perhaps it is installed in local
repo?

Best regards
Raffaele

I think you're running into CONTINUUM-1789 [1] -- you can't add a
project if the parent pom is not already in the *local* repository on
the Continuum server. It will not go retrieve the parent from a
remote repo.

The workaround is to install the parent into the local repository.

Yes,
my parent is in a remote repository surely.
Well, in this case, when I add child.pom project to Continuum, despite its
parent is in a remote repository, Continuum says equally to me that parent
pom is missing and so, adding child project fails!

What should I do to add my child project on Continuum, can you list all
steps please?
- a parent pom (with packaging pom) in remote repository
- and a child pom with packaging jar in svn

Thanks again, best regards
Raffaele

If your parent isn't in svn, it must be in a remote repository used by your
child projects.
