SA3 using _lots_ more memory than SA2

Hi guys

SA3 is working great for me - I've only had one false negative since
installing and it's caught over 170 spam messages so far on my account.

But I noticed that memory usage has been a lot more since installing it, see
http://matt.gresleyrovers.com/pictures/mem-sa3.png

I'm only using the default rule sets and hardly any settings have been
touched since install (other than adding a few whitelist entries and
changing the rewrite_header Subject).

The spamd child processes are taking up a massive amount of memory (see
below).

USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND
root 19779 0.0 0.5 28192 1388 ? S Sep22 0:01
/usr/bin/spamd -d -c -m5 -H
root 19782 0.2 8.8 32788 22136 ? S Sep22 2:13 spamd child
root 19783 0.2 7.9 31488 20088 ? S Sep22 1:58 spamd child
root 19784 0.1 7.9 31768 20104 ? S Sep22 1:55 spamd child
root 19785 0.2 8.2 32764 20860 ? S Sep22 1:58 spamd child
root 19786 0.4 11.0 42236 27724 ? S Sep22 4:01 spamd child

It's not a particularly busy server ~100 messages per hour.

So my question is, is this normal?

Thanks

Matt

Same here, FreeBSD 4.8 with 1.5 gigs of RAM, had an up time of 116 days
with SA 2.x and max 10 children and quite a few additional rules sets.
No swap used at all.

Installed SA 3.x yesterday, same machine, no additional rules sets, same
max 10 children, 153 megs of swap currently in use.

Seems that 3.x uses more memory and my load avg is always above 1 BUT it
also seems that the scan times are now all around 2 seconds and the load
avg doesn't spike as much as it did under 2.x.

Regards,

Rick
