JSVGCanvas events

As nobody is answering do I have to get to the the conclusion that the example
on :

http://xml.apache.org/batik/javaScripting.html

does not work ? This would mean that it is not possible to get events from the
JSVGCanvas...? This is a real problem for me, as I absolutely need this to
work
for my thesis project. PLEASE HELP if you can.
