Compile Fails, Does Not Find libjpeg-turbo

CentOS 7.6
Guac 1.0.0

When I install libjpeg-turbo directly using a command like "yum localinstall
-y
https://sourceforge.net/projects/libjpeg-turbo/files/2.0.2/libjpeg-turbo-official-2.0.2.x86_64.rpm"

Then compiling works without issue.

If however, I create the libjepg-turbo repo file and install
libjpeg-turbo-official from their repo via "yum install -y
libjpeg-turbo-official" as per the directions at
https://libjpeg-turbo.org/Downloads/YUM, libjpeg-turbo is installed but...

Compiling fails when running the command "./configure
--with-systemd-dir=/etc/systemd/system"

I see the following output:
checking for jpeg_start_compress in -ljpeg... no
configure: error: "libjpeg is required for writing jpeg messages"

So I am guessing Guac's compile routine is having trouble recognizing
libjpeg-turbo installed via the libjpeg-turbo repo, but cant figure out how
to fix the situation. Any insights or recommendations would be great.
Thanks.

Not to revive an old thread unnecessarily, but I also ran into this recently
and it appears that if you compile from source or rebuild the SRPM you need
to pay particular attention to this paragraph in the build steps:
https://github.com/libjpeg-turbo/libjpeg-turbo/blob/master/BUILDING.md#user-content-installing-libjpeg-turbo:~:text=Changing%20the%20value%20of%20CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX%20(for,structure%20that%20conforms%20to%20GNU%20standards.

My guacd couldn't find the header files because they weren't in the expected
spot.

In addition to this Sourceforge rpms don't follow the RHEL/CentOS/Fedora
.spec file format (which follows the standard that Mike Jumper spoke to
above). So I would advise using Fedora's SRPM as your .spec template if you
are going to re-package in your own repo :)

Re: Compile Fails, Does Not Find libjpeg-turbo

Posted by Mike Jumper <mj...@apache.org>.
In general, on a platform using RPM packages, the convention is to separate
the binaries of a library (libfoo) from the headers required to compile
software against that library (libfoo-devel). An RPM that has already been
built against a particular library can thus simply depend on the binary
package for that library, and the user need not have a bunch of development
headers installed that are not needed. Compiling software against the
library would require both the binary and the development packages.

Debian, Ubuntu, etc. follow similar conventions with "-dev" instead of
"-devel".

The fact that this worked for you before after installing only one package
without the conventional "-devel" suffix suggests that the maintainers of
that package did not follow that convention. Nothing within RPM inherently
requires that the maintainer follow those conventions, of course, nor that
they document that they didn't follow those conventions, nor that the
package actually contain what is expected vs. a post-install script that
runs "rm -rf /". Caveat emptor.

Sorry, correction...

Looks like I may have resolved this.

"yum install -y libjpeg-turbo-official libjpeg-devel"

Adding libjpeg-devel appears to work. I guess the rpm includes them but the
repo needs to have it explicitly installed?

Hope this helps others, Thanks.
