Last nite my apache2 server stopped:

in the parent process

Starting httpd2 (prefork) failed
dmesg:

disabling php5 apache2 module allows the server to start

mod_php is not an apache product. It's from the PHP project.
And in this instance, I expect it's a problem with your packages.
