As the plan is to strongly discourage use of 1.8 after 2.0 is released, we wouldn't want anything like the "choose your API version" menu in the mockup, we'd want to archive the old 1.8 site in a branch somewhere and make it available at a URL such as https://pdfbox.apache.org/1.8 with a message at the top saying that it is no longer under development. Then somewhere on the new 2.0 site we would provide a link for users who are looking for the old 1.8 website.

There's no point wasting any energy on 1.8 documents which will be deprecated in a few months time.
