[jira] [Commented] (WOOKIE-194) shouldn't be able to add a widget if Shindig is not deployed

Scott Wilson commented on WOOKIE-194:
-------------------------------------

We do have the "opensocial.enable = true" set in opensocial.properties. I propose setting this by default to "false", and using this property as the switch for the add gadget UI item.

> The user is presented with a menu item to add a gadget even if Shindig is not available. If a user attempts to upload a gadget they receive a rather uninformative "There was a problem registering this gadget " error. The log indicates a more useful error of "[java] java.lang.Exception: There was a problem connecting to the Shindig metadata service"
> At the very least the UI should report the actual error. Ideally the option to upload the gadget would not be displayed in the first place.
