I cannot reproduce the problem using Sun JDK 1.4.2 and Xalan-J 2.6.0. Have you followed this FAQ (http://xml.apache.org/xalan-j/faq.html#faq-N100CC) to put the xalan 2.6 jars into the endorsed directory or the boot classpath? You can also use EnvironmentCheck (http://xml.apache.org/xalan-j/faq.html#faq-N1005D) to make sure that you are running with Xalan 2.6.
