Hi,

Very glad to see your excitement. First of all you won't be assisting
me. We are all volunteers and contribute depending on what time we
have.
If you're willing to contribute you will learn a lot of new and
interesting stuff and get better at developing software.

How about you start with a small task like:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JAMES-1220 . This will allow you
to get a grip on Jame's source code and do something useful.
Before you start, you should register on the server-user and
server-dev mailing lists: http://james.apache.org/mail.html and
download James source code from SVN:
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/james/current/ .

When you're registered, write an email on server-dev if you're willing
to take on the task. We'll talk from there.

Cheers,

Hi Ankit,

My best suggestion is to find a project that you also use often. By
using it, you will know what's missing from the project. You will
become better at the job and get more satisfaction from you work.
You can find a list of projects here:
http://projects.apache.org/indexes/quick.html . I suggest you first
look at incubating projects.

I'm one of committers for Apache James - it's an email server written
in Java (it also has a lot of tools for email related work, like
mime4j - for MIME processing). If you're interested in trying it out I
can give you some directions around.

Cheers,
