[jira] Created: (DIRSTUDIO-504) Timestamp attribute with an invalid time in it is read only - editor ignores entry

Timestamp attribute with an invalid time in it is read only - editor ignores entry
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: DIRSTUDIO-504
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DIRSTUDIO-504
             Project: Directory Studio
          Issue Type: Bug
            Reporter: Graham Leggett

After putting bogus data into a timestamp field (SYNTAX 1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.24) using ldapmodify, a search of that entry displays correctly in the entry editor, but is not editable.

The "edit value F7" option is available, but does nothing when selected.

Ideally the option should be made to edit the entry, along with the warning that the previous time value was corrupt and a new one should be chosen.

It would definitely make sense.

Actually, we were discussing about that with Stefan just one minute ago on IRC.

I'll prepare that for next version.

Would it make sense when the default editor throws an exception saying "garbage, sorry", for a dialog to be raised telling the end user "you have bogus data, would you like to set the data from scratch?". If yes, the time chooser pops up, with some sensible default date (today?).

As a workaround you could edit the value using another value editor. To do so choose "Edit Value With" -> "In-Place Text Editor" from the value's context menu. HTH

I added a confirmation dialog when the value is bogus with the following message:

"The value ''{0}'' is bogus and cannot be edited in the Date and Time Editor.\n\nWould you like to open the Date and Time Editor with the current date and time ?\n\n\nNote: To edit the bogus value, you can use the In-Place Text Editor."
