[Bug 124286] New: Legend of chart saved in .xls lost on round trip
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=124286
Bug ID: 124286
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Legend of chart saved in .xls lost on round trip
Product: Calc
Version: 4.0.1
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: save-export
Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
Reporter: lukebenes@hotmail.com
CC: issues@openoffice.apache.org
Created attachment 82655
--> https://issues.apache.org/ooo/attachment.cgi?id=82655&action=edit
Simple .xls chart missing legend after export
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a chart in OpenOffice Calc
2. Manually move the chart’s legend anywhere (without using the default
positions, top, bot, left right)
3. Save the .xls file
4. Close the file
5. Open with Cal
Note: The legend is missing. Even if you do a print preview, the legend is not
displayed. However, if you play with the chart by resizing, you can usually
make the legend reappear.
If you use the predefined positions(Edit->Format Legend->Position), all
position settings are lost. The legend is reset to the right center position.

(g) I keep OS = All because I assume reporter's OS = Linux Mint 16 Petra
(h) Also reproducible with legend position = left and moved down manually
(i) further investigations shows that legend also reappears when I increase
width of chart object (after double click) to double size

Legend in Sample 2014-02-21 15:34 CET, slacka invisible, but not lost, as you
can see if you open document with "AOO 4.0.1 – German UI / German locale [Rev.
1524958 2013-09-20 11:40:29]" on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", “historic”
4.0 User Profile used for all predecessor versions and do menu #Format ->
Legend - Position - right.
Some more tests with own sample document (see new attachment):
1. Open Sample document
2. Save document as .xls (Excel 97)
3. close document, reopen with MS EXCEL Viewer
> looks fine
4. Close document in Excel Viewer, reopen with AOO
> Legend in third chart invisible
Additional Info:
(a) Effect is related to very particular circumstances, most of my
attempts to reproduce the problem failed. For example if the document
contains chart titles
(b) In reporter's "2014-02-21 15:34 CET, slacka " you can make reappear the
legend:
Click chart (green control points appear)
Drag and drop bottom middle control point 9 cell heights (or more)
down: legend reappears
(c) clearly not a "sav-export" problem due to step 3
(d) might be related to Bug 124298, might e not, I am not sure.
