We aren't really in the business of mucking with content on the way out of
the server; we just send it.  There are, however, third party modules
like mod_layout that can do pretty much exactly what you want.  Google
should find it for you.

As far as mod_autoindex goes, yes it would be nice to be able to specify
a stylesheet.  But I'm sure that's not going to happen with Apache 1.3,
which is basically in bug-fix mode.

If you want that for 2.0, please file a more specific feature-request
but report on the 2.0 version.
